About

Our Story

Founded in 1991, the Canadian Machinery Vibration Association (CMVA) grew out of decades of leadership in machinery dynamics and condition monitoring, building on the legacy of the National Research Council’s Machinery Dynamics Subcommittee. Today, we are Canada’s recognized standard-bearer for excellence in vibration analysis and reliability engineering.

What We Do

Our mission is to encourage the development and application of Canadian and international standards of practice in machinery dynamics and predictive maintenance. We are committed to supporting professional development through education, certification, research, and the sharing of practical experience.

Community & Industry Leadership

CMVA is a national network of regional chapters, volunteers, and members working together to set and uphold industry standards. Through local chapter activities and a national board of directors, we promote best practices, support collaboration, and help shape the future of machinery condition monitoring in Canada.

Certification & Professional Development

CMVA provides industry-recognized certification for machinery vibration analysis specialists, accredited to ISO 17024 standards. Our exams and credentials support career advancement and demonstrate professional competence to employers and peers. We also encourage ongoing professional development through access to exclusive training, technical resources, and educational programs.

Events and Knowledge Sharing

We are dedicated to advancing the field through conferences, seminars, technical papers, and our quarterly magazine. Members gain access to a wide range of resources, including research, case studies, previous conference proceedings, and opportunities to connect and learn from other professionals in the field.

How We’re Organized

Volunteer-driven.

CMVA is a member-driven, volunteer-powered non-profit organization dedicated to serving Canada’s machinery vibration and condition monitoring community. The vast majority of our work is accomplished by passionate volunteers—industry professionals, chapter leaders, and committee members—who generously share their time and expertise to advance our mission.

Members join the national CMVA and are connected to one of our five regional chapters, each with its own leadership and local events. In addition to individual members, we’re supported by corporate members and partners who share our commitment to excellence and standards in machinery reliability.
